Blended colors in a journal

Prepare wood, stones and other surfaces

Acrylic markers aren't just for paper. With a little prep, they work beautifully on wood, stones and cardboard.

Wood

Lightly sand the surface and wipe off the dust. On raw wood, a first thin coat seals the grain — the second gives the vivid color.

Stones and pebbles

Wash and dry them completely. Smooth, flat pebbles are easiest. Start with light colors, then add details with the fine tip.

Cardboard and kraft paper

Acrylic covers even on dark backgrounds: perfect for gift tags and cards.

Make it last

Let everything dry fully. For outdoor pieces, finish with a clear acrylic varnish.
