Pick your colors and cover the numbers on a color-by-number page

Color-by-number pages are relaxing — until the printed numbers peek through your colors. Here's how to get a clean result.
1. Swatch first
Before you start, make a quick swatch strip of every color listed in the key. Printed color names rarely match the real ink, so trust your swatches.
2. Start with the darkest areas
Dark shades cover the numbers best. Fill those zones first with the brush tip, using smooth strokes in one direction.
3. Light shades: two thin layers
Yellows, beiges and pastels are more transparent. Lay down a first thin coat, let it dry a few seconds, then add a second one over the number.
4. Outline with the fine tip
Flip the pen and use the fine tip of the same color to clean up edges and tiny cells.
